Practical guide
Design training and measure competence
Connect objectives, exercises, assessment and workplace transfer in a verifiable programme.
Practical guide
A case to prepare your project
A team needs a monthly reporting table. Errors involve both data entry and explaining the figures. The objective is a correct, understandable report rather than memorising software menus.
Illustrative scenario, to adapt to your organisation.Prepare and perform the checks
Define an observable task
Specify output, permitted tools and working conditions. Replace vague understanding objectives with demonstrable actions.
Build the exercise and rubric
Use realistic fictitious data. Define criteria beforehand and feedback that explains errors rather than only assigning a score.
Plan the follow-up
Provide a champion, job aid and later task. Check whether participants can perform without unnecessary assistance.
A reusable acceptance checklist
Agree thresholds, owners and test data before testing. Retain dated results, exceptions and the acceptance decision.
| Check | Expected result | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Prerequisites | Baseline ability and tool access are known before the session. | Initial assessment and needs list. |
| Measurable objective | Every learning unit has a task and success criteria. | Objective, exercise and assessment mapping. |
| Practical achievement | Participants perform the task and explain essential decisions. | Anonymised output and commented rubric. |
| Workplace transfer | The capability is used in a later work situation. | Follow-up observation and participant feedback. |
Decide using evidence
Measure satisfaction, acquisition and workplace use separately. If a task remains impossible, examine access, available time and procedures. Another training session is not always the answer.
